FUR & FEATHERS IN COLOUR PENCIL

With a full workshop of keen participants, our weekend of drawing with colour pencil kicked off with a portrait of a tiger. Not an easy subject with stripes, the students did a commendable job with the fur, eyes and nose. Sunday saw us tackle the same image of the Rainbow Lorikeet that I have just finished. Not to be daunted by all those green feathers, the girls produced some wonderful pieces. Colour pencil is not the easiest medium to use and needs plenty of practice. It was interesting the difference in results due to the variety in brands of pencils. I use Caran d'ache Prismalos which are a hard pencil and most importantly classified as lightfast. We all used Arches watercolour paper, 300gsm in a hot pressed finish. So pleased with everyone's committment and efforts, it was a great weekend! The next workshop is also in colour pencil on Sept 27th-28th.
