"Folds & Fabric" workshop

Although most of my workshops are nature based, I felt the subject of folds and fabric for this most recent one, to be an extremely important lesson that can be applied to many subjects including some found in nature. The main focus was edges and values to achieve the look and texture of the folds. After a couple of exercises I set up a still life of a woollen scarf which was perfect to demonstrate the light and shadows that form with folds. Following on from this on Sunday, I used my easel as my model and draped a blue sheet over it, tying it in the middle to form some more interesting folds. The students did an amazing job, observing and working diligently to produce some great results. Meanwhile I worked on a crumpled calico bag as a demo for the folds.
