Mixed Media

I've had this idea off and on for a few years, to do a mixed media piece on watercolour paper with either pencil or paint with a background of gold leaf. I did a few experiments and was not confident with the paint idea. Finally I saw a reference photo of a zebra, lit with the lovely soft colours of the setting African sun, that gave me the inspiration to try it with colour pencils. I decided to use Nero pencils for the stripes to get them very black, blending them as well. I was delighted that the concept worked and I have entered it in the mixed media section of the upcoming Bright Autumn Art Show, held in Bright from March 23rd to May 8th. I enjoyed the challenge and look forward to attempting another one in the near future.
